How will the Woodstock music festival in 1969 to empower young people of America?

Sorry, but I agree with the consensus here – Woodstock did nothing to "empower" anyone. It was not about empowerment, and whoever says otherwise is flat out wrong. I realize that millions of people say that – but I was actually at Woodstock. And you Believe me, nobody talks about empowerment – We were talking about sex, drugs and rock & roll. Woodstock actually happened at the end of the day. In late 1969, the years sixties were dying, and so was the mood of optimism. The real power of American youth occurred years before, and was moved by the spirit of optimism came from the Kennedy administration. It was then fed by the injustices revealed by the growing civil rights movement, and brought to full maturity in protests against the Vietnam War. These three things were empowering. Woodstock just blowing steam – I know – I was there. Cheers. Edit to "Coolio" Let me develop briefly my previous comments as "coolies" were baseless statements. I was there, Coolio, and have lived through that period. As I said, the spirit of independence was born of events prior to the Kennedy administration, the Civil Rights Movement, and hopes for a peaceful solution the conflict in Vietnam. In 1969, there was left was empowering. We saw the lies of the Johnson administration has exposed the disastrous Tet Offensive 1968. We have witnessed the cleaning of the Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy. We saw the riots at the Democratic Convention in Chicago, and then the election of Richard Nixon. All these things have happened before Woodstock. At that time there was no sense of "we have to rally the troops and make the world safe for flowers to grow." In 1969, no one believed, like the Beatles, said, "All You Need Is Love". The sixties were dying, and would soon give up the ghost. In the decade of 1970, this spirit of "change the world" mutated into what Tom Wolfe called the "Decade of Me" where the hippies burned abandon the idea of improve the outside world, and instead focused on the internal drive to improve their lives through self-indulgence. I try not to be condescending, Coolio, but wrote an essay than a thousand words – congratulations. I lived then, and understand more about what it means and how it mutated.
