Are the colours of the American FLAG based on the colours of the British Union Jack?
Ovicacly every one SHOULD know the union flag came long before the US flag but RED WHITE and BLUE are almost completely based on the Union flag, although france has red white and blue there different shades, so are they based on the Union Flag?
As the US began as a British colony, and the colours of the British flag were red white and blue, it seems reasonable to assume that this is the source of the choice of colours for the American flag.
PS to “Bo” – in this case it is spelled colour because that is the British spelling and since the question is about the Union Jack, it’s quite appropriate to spell the word as the Brits do.
