has Gene Simmons finally sold out? for fans from the time when KISS was opening for the DOLLS?
just saw a portion of his video “fire-starter”, been a kiss fan since the beginning and even through the “disco” era lol. one of the things i have admired about kiss( Gene, Paul) is the fact that they always did original material(that’s never been critically acclaimed for a band, that has been selling out over 90% of their concerts for over 30 years) which has been a big part of their credibility over their whole career. i know Gene is one of the most opportunistic entrepreneurs( who else would think to patent the term OJ(orange juice)lol. but to do something (cover tune) that he himself has flamed bands for doing while citing his own band’s strict adherence to doing original material seems to be a little hypocritical and one of the first indicators for an artist who has been in the spotlight for so long( that it might be time to give up the solo music part of your career).
i have been in the KISS ARMY since 74 so this may be a q just for some of us “old timers” lol
Simmons has stated quite often that KISS is not a band, but a brand. KISS have become the masters at packaging and re-packaging their history over and over, and selling it to the fans (KISSology, etc.). They have no incentive to be creative anymore, as they can relive 1977 as often as we let them.
